Hi I've just got back after a week away and found my broccoli covered in yellow flowers, as a newbie to gyo I take it they have gone to seed and should be pulled and the area used for something else.
thanks

Yes, they have gone over. Not gone to seed as such but they have flowered, whereas what we eat is the flower bud. They do this quite quickly once the head is formed I've found and I've been caught out a few times myself.
The thing is that the plants generally mature at around the same time, so it's difficult to eat them all before some of them flower. If I have enough presence of mind I try to eat some and cut and freeze the rest.

Hi Bagman,
Depending on the variety that you are growing and how far advanced the flowers have got you may be able to de-flower the plants and you may get some secondary growth which is very edible.
I would be inclined to try this rather than pull them up immediately. It can take 4-5 weeks for any secondary growth to materialize.

Thanks for the information I'll have to be better organized next time.
