one of my psb that are supposed to be for next year has sprouted a head already, is it worth carrying on or should I pull it up and grow another, is it too late to sow now?

Same thing has happened to me. Just one of 10! I'm going to eat it and see what happens. Why just one?

Two years ago all my early sprouting broccoli "performed" in autumn, last year none did (the same variety, sown and planted around the same time!). This year about half have done it and we have been eating them, so they are growing more side branches but I don't think they'll be worth keeping until next spring.

Hi Mandy,
Sometimes these things are unexplainable but I have had Rudolf, which used to be the earliest, come into bud at the end of August instead of December, the earliest normal time. Now that there are summer varieties of PSB I suppose it is possible there is a stray seed of something like Bordeaux slipped into your seeds. My previous sowing of Rudolf had been to normal time and so was the sowing the following year and all from the same batch of seeds.
I suspect that the weather has played a major part in this as we have had some extremely cold nights and that is what induces EPS Broccoli into bud.
