My peas are coming to an end. They have been great and I was wondering about saving some of the peas to sow next year. I think the variety was Hurst Greenshaft or something like that.

Do peas come true to form or will I get a mish mash of shapes and sizes.

Will they be more prone to disease If I don't buy new ones from a supplier?

I think it's probably safe to save your peas unless they're an F1 Hybrid variety, which never seem to regenerate themselves true to form. I've never grown enough peas to make it worthwhile saving them but one year I did save some French climbing bean seeds and when I sowed them the following year most of them came up as dwarfs. (Can't remember which variety it was).

I saved climbing french beans last year and they have come back as climbers. I actually went out and harvested about 10 pods yesterday. They might the first successful crop I've grown this year.

I grow peas from seed saved from the previous year.
I'm not fussy about variety as I think there is not a lot of difference. I had a very productive crop this year. My dad, in his time, grew peas from a packet bought for cooking !. They grew very well.
