My celery is now around 18" high and has formed up to a good size. Can it be harvested now or should it be left until it has had some cold weather on it? Somebody told me that it should have a frost on it before harvesting but it is available all year round so i wans't sure if this is true or not.

Dear GIB, if your celery is of a usable size i would certainly start using it. It will still be far better than that twangy stuff that one can buy, and that wil be without any cold weather. :)
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Hi GIB,
I think the self blanching varieties should be picked as soon as it is at an edible size. I have only ever grown Trench Celery but as my needs are so small I now buy from Morrison's which is self blanching. I have found it to be fine so really there is no reason why you cannot start munching yours. I must say that after a large roast on Sunday lunch time Celery, Cheese and a few crackers makes a wonderful supper.

OH and Johnboy

Many thanks for your reply and words of wisdom! I will start picking it as it is eaqually as big as you would buy in the shops.
