My beloved car AJay has just passed her MOT at the grand old age of 23 years.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha :D :D

Mechanically she's perfect, I just never know what's happening to the chassis, so before taking her in yesterday I didn't even fill up with petrol, just in case. :lol: All I needed was one new tyre and she's good to go for another year.

I've not told Tim yet as he's yearning after a new car and doesn't see things as I do. The fact that he's lusting after a Lotus Elise is neither here nor there. What good would a Lotus be for someone who regularly fills her car with sacks of manure? He's suggested a Lotus Elise with a trailer for muck transportation. :roll: I've suggested that he has more chance of flying to the moon without a rocket. :lol: :lol:

Great news about AJ Chantal. She's a cracking car and full of character.

As for a Lotus....rubbish. I'd rather have a Bhugatti. Now THAT is a beautiful car.

If I could afford a Bhugatti I could afford to run another for the manure run. The cheapest Bhugatti retails around the £175,000 mark.

I always find it a relief when a car goes through it's M.O.T, especially if it's been a good old friend. Luckily i won a free M.O.T test at a charity function the other month, and the car also passed when it went for it's M.O.T, so that was a double result. :)

Lizzie i know a couple of very dodgy car dealers, that might be able to do you a good deal. But thinking about it i bet everyone knows a dodgy car dealer. :)

Thanks Lizzie, full of character and usually full of s**t!

She was cleaned out a week ago and currently has no garden tools, plant pots or general junk in the back, although there is enough straw secreted around the place to line a rabbit hutch. :roll:

I constantly worry about what I'll do with AJay when she finally has to retire. The guys at Kwikfit joke that I'll have her craned over the garage and into the back garden to use as a planter, a greenhouse or a chicken shed. :lol:

I can't even think about what kind of car I'll have next as AJay has been with us since she was 16 miles old. :wink:

I have some sympathy with Tim! However, some years ago, ahen I ventured into a garage to have a look at a Lotus, I was reminded that the word Lotus stands for "Lots of trouble, usually serious".

Interestingly, the man at the garage said I wasn't a suitable prospective owner for a Lotus because I wanted to use it every day and needed it to be reliable. He could only reccomend it as a second car. So I had another Saab!

Having owned (or in a family that owned) a Mazda since just after I passed my test in 1988 I'm rather keen to have another one.

AJay (that's her registration by the way A367 JAY not just a soppy name) was the fourth Mazda we owned and I ended up with her, much to my delight. She just keeps on going and going and going, much to Tim's disgust. I can't see any point in changing her until I have to as she costs me nuts to run, has cost me very, very little in maintenance (£45 this past 12 months) and the insurance is neglible. She has wheels, heating, CD player when I can be bothered and gets us around. What more do I need? :D

My late father had a 15 year old Renault which he refused to part with, and I seem to remember that at the time, cars over a certain age didn't have to pay road tax. Does that still apply or did our former Chancellor abolish that concession? I reckon any car which survives that long is entitled to a few freebies.

i had a mini i loved when i moved down here-sadly it was on its last legs and i had to sell it
mind you thinking back i had to break a mile before traffic lights/hills etc it was rather like fred flintstones car
my ka is only 6.5 yrs old but its great-its rather like a resources box! i think ill have it forever!

Dear Jopsy, the only problem i have heard about Ka's is that they are very prone to people running into them in carparks and just driving off. :twisted: :) :wink:

It has been abolished Primrose. Free tax used to be available on cars over 25 years but now it's only for those registered before 1974. :roll:

It's the guys in the Post Office who crack me up. When I go in to tax her, I always get rude comments such as "A year? I do admire your optimism..." Cheeky monkeys. :lol: :lol:

I used to want a Lotus Elise until I drove one around Thruxton on a track day. It was very fast and great fun but sooooooo uncomfortable. you need a degree in geometry to get in and out of it and a long journey would be agony on the bottom.
