Dear All,
After all this awful rain, does anyone know if there's a particular green manure which may help to restore some order to the soil if planted this autumn or late summer? I order stuff for our allotment stores and I have been asked this question.
I dunno - do you?

Giulia, I have just sown clover and winter tares where I want to grow brassicas next season. The other green manure plant I sow is Phacelia tanacetifolia, which is vigorous and, although it is described as not winter-hardy, has overwintered very succesfully on my allotment before. It provides very bulky material but doesn't fix nitrogen.

Good luck

mike
