Sunhat or not.

While I was upside down in my dentist's chair he (of all people)remarked that my head looked sunburnt (in this weather? He should have seen me last year) and he very strongly advised me to wear a sunhat. I've never been a hat person so I was wondering, is it worth taking any notice of him? And if so, what type of hat would you recommend? Do they make your head sweat? Can you get burnt while sitting under the green linen parasol in the gaden? And I've got a comfy chair in my polytunnel for watching things grow. What about in there? Any comments? FatB

I'm balding on top. On hot days I wear a baseball cap... incongruous I know but it does the job. Melanoma I can do without.

I've got plenty of hair, so it's not a problem for me. OH hasn't and won't wear a hat of any type - winter or summer - so it's factor 25 in the sun.

I nearly always wear a hat - sunhat in the summer and thermal hat in the winter. Keeps my hair out of my eyes as well as the more obvious benefits. I have lots of hair but want to keep the sun off my face too.
My stepfather just had a melanoma removed from his arm. Kind of brings it home to you.

A balding friend of ours (a keen gardener and walker) had a melanoma removed from the top of his head last year and was strongly advised never to go outside without a hat.

I wear a hat whenever its bright or sunny, I make sure that the hat has a brim that will protect my neck whilst bending down.
Although I still have my hair it is thinning as I get a little older.
Within a few minutes of being in the hot sun I can feel my skin cooking...

One of my brothers has a bald pate. He says it's one of the following
1. He's not bald his ears have dropped
2. It's a solar panel for a sex machine
3. It makes him more streamlined as he's a Portugese racing sardine.
He always wears a cap cos he's fair skinned so burns easily.

I always wera a hat. A winter trilby type and more importantly a Panama in summer(?).
I get my Panama's from a fair trade outfit, and they are the real McCoy. Also very reasonably priced!

Believe me Herby, my multiple white bits are kept under very close wraps......even Big Andrew doesn't see them
I like to keep covered up in case I frighten small children and wildlife

I've never worn hats, but I'm now seriously thinking of investing in a sou'wester.

Lizzie, You wouldn't say that if you saw my battered two year old Panama, and the rest of my gear!
Don't keep us in suspenders, what is his secret?
