Hi Grock

Horse Bran, get a large bag from an equestrian supplier, wil need replacing after a few weeks especially if it gets wet regularly, it really works for me, you get a large bag for about five or six quid. When you come to replace it, hoe in the old stuff and sprinkle the new stuff down. I also have my strawbs in a wooden enclosure and have cut holes in weedproof fabric which I grown em through, this also helps. Finally pick them just as they stil have a few pale patches on them and let them ripen in the fridge or on a cool windowsill, they are less attractive to predators when they are firm like this. The answer is you can't completely beat the pests but save enough for you to enjoy.

At the risk of posting the same picture twice, don't assume that netting will help without some careful pre-planning
