Ran out of space for courgettes

My courgettes have outgrown their rootrainers and need to be planted. Do they really need a square metre space each to grow ? Slugs have eaten half of them so I only have 8 left. How many could I grow in a big dustbin ? If they trailed down the side could I plant them closer together ?

Have you thought of planting them between plants you already have growing? I didn't have space for mine either and have planted them between my sweetcorn plants.
I wouldn't have thought you could fit more than one or two in a dustbin.

They'll also sit happily at the bottom of peas or climbing beans.

Yes, I always grow my beans in wigwams of 8 canes with a courgette or patty pan in the middle of each. You could also put them in growbags!
