I've noticed that some members who ask for advice or help make a point of saying thankyou when they have read the help/advice others have posted.

Many, I notice, don't even post back, let alone say thanks. Makes me wonder whether they have even read the replies. Or is that just me being cynical?

Also, it would be useful to know whether the advice given actually worked.

So, come on, let's have some thanks and feedback.

A very valid comment Alan.

I thankyou for bringing this to our attention.
And i don't think your being too cynical, just honest.

On another site I visit there's a 'thanks' button at the bottom of each post, which any reader can click, then underneath the post it says 'the following person thanked xxxxx for their post'. There's even a counter under each username to show how many times they've been thanked. :D
I try to thank people for advice I've received but sometimes may get distracted and/or forget - so apologies now to those who've helped me but I haven't thanked!
Personally it doesn't bother me whether I'm thanked or not, although it's helpful to know whether the advice worked. To be honest, I doubt it would register on my extremely unperceptive radar as to whether I'd been thanked or not!

I agree we should always try to thank for advice given and, as Jenny almost says, even more important to thank for advice given and taken and successful; that way we can all learn what really works. I like to think I always have done. The world is a pretty rude place these days and if we can spread a little politeness it might help.
Last night I had 40 odd ex colleagues up for a sort of at home and garden open to celebrate my retirement and they were well chuffed with my taking of tea-shot's advice to buy garden seats with my leaving collection - they also wondered how I ever had time to go to work!

Geoff - It costs nothing to say 'thank you' and it may, possibly, help to make the world a bit better.

I 'chucked' the day job in my late fifties and have been working harder ever since:lol: Sometimes think I might go back on the PAYE payroll for a rest, but that thought only lasts a few microseconds :D

BTW I've asked a few questions on here, I think (hope) I've thanked people and responded.
Regards
