It is May and hot and dry, not much news on the forum at the moment so I thought I might start a 'what's new thread'
For me as first years as 'lotment chairman, it is good to see that most plot holders are well advanced into the season. For me I still have courgette, pumpkin, winter brassica and sweetcorn seeds to sow, but this warm wet weather things will soon catch up. I say wet weather cos rains is forecast for later on this weekend, however, the earth here is really quite scorched.
I have my shed and greenhouse gutters plumbed into collect water into the large 300 litre tank I have been given, however, nor rain as such means It desperately needs filling.
So folks what's new at your end, seems like not much is being said on the forum?

Evening Compo, all my tender stuff is that far advanced this year, i'm planting it all out now.
So watching the weather forecasts, and dreading to see a frost warning.
There will be a lot of covering up going on.
We have had one little bit of Drizzle in six weeks so busy watering the seeds.
The bigger plants are copping admirably.
But we could do with a drop soon.

Instead of starting a new thread why not try to answer, or get people to answer my question in Best Practices on carrots, to which once again I have had no replies.
I would have thought that it was was an interesting enough topic that deserves an answer, or perhaps I am mistaken and people who use the forum would sooner deal with more frivolous topics instead of helping people who require help from people who know the answers

With respect, you really are starting to sound like the Forum Policeman. You will have noticed that this particular forum is called General Chatter. So it it hardly for you to criticise a bit of lighthearted news swapping.
As regards your posting on carrots, here are my observations:
Perhaps people did not actually have any advice
I have posted back all I know, which, as you will see, is hardly anything
Your first post would have been better if you had asked politely for any help from people's personal experiences
Perhaps after your previous criticisms of members for not replying to you, or for making flippant remarks in your threads, they simply can't be bothered to reply
I hope you take these comments as objective and not personal. I too get annoyed when serious threads go off on an irrelevant tangent (though I am sometimes guilty myself). I hope that all on the forum are here to help each other, asking for and receiving advice, with a fair bit of fun and a bit of personal animosity now and again.

Why not? H&S I suppose but if they're out of reach of the children I can't see a problem. Or is it the teachers that they're worried about? 
On the subject of what's new; I've had 100% germination (greenhouse) of my squash, courgettes, cucumbers and it's looking like all the beans too. I only put them all in a week or so ago so perhaps that's the difference, 'cos usually I sow much earlier and germination is good but more erratic. Perhaps all this inactivity because of hospital making everying late is a very good thing that I should practice every year, without the actual hospital bit.

I've got broad beans that have had 100% germination and went out yesterday because they're too big for their pots. And my peas are doing well this year as well. Planted the first lot out and lost maybe two to the heat, but have another lot sprouting in the greenhouse. I am determined to get peas this year after three years of failures.
The runner beans still aren't doing anything, but I'll leave them a bit longer. Have replanted them once already because they mysteriously vanished or were eaten.

Mary put out our petunias to harden off, however the pigions soon uprooted the lot! I love my birds, but hate the neigbours flying rats! My Bokashi seems to be working well, and I'm waiting for a jobsbody from the council to tell me that I'm not recycling kitchen waste!

Maybe not new,Caulies All year round doing well, also broad beans, onions and lettuce and peas, carrots,parsnips and beetroot getting there slowly also lettuce transplants, all potatoes showing some earthed up, tomatoes planted into ground in greenhouse.
Mini cole cabbages,2nd lot of caulies, ready to go out that leaves squashes, peppers and chillies to see to, no sign of runner beans showing yet.

I get your point It would appear that my abrasive manner has proved succesful, as now i am getting some replies to my question. I still maintain that in the forum more replies are generated on light hearted matters than on serius ones about vegatable growing matters, not just my own as I have observed that some other good postings from others get little or no response. Anyway thanks for your answers and no offence meant from me.

Brenjon I do take some moderate offence at your posting mate, if anyone knows the answer on your carrots you will get a reply I am sure, some of us just want a chat, I personally read best practices and the other more technical postings daily and If I can offer advice I will, so I think to interrupt a thread which I regular start, and one which is as Alan says ' a news-swap' and a popular one too: Well I think it is not cricket old boy!! But having said that you are entitled to your view also!!
