Two to start the topic off
In Percy Grainger's Country Gardens the association is with vegetables, it has nothing to do with the purely ornamental side. In those days people working the land were given the use of a cottage, usually with a patch of land in which to grow vegetables and eke out their meagre income. We have among others Harry Belafonte to thank for the misconception. Nowadays there are only too many yuppies who do the trendy thing and turn the cottage garden into a chocolate-box-top showcase.
In Geoff Hamilton's last series the musical theme is by John Ireland, part of the Downland Suite. One of the arrangers, geoffery Bush was the son of my wife's geography teacher. It's a small world.
You can hear several audio sampled from CD Universe website. You get a series of double crothcets, click on these to hear various clips from the suite. I'm afraid the CD is too expensive for my budget.
