I planted some Sutton broad beans late last year. They have done very well and are now smothered in flowers and the bees have been busy on them. I noticed that the lower flowers have started to die off but there are no beans coming behind them, is this normal? - any suggestions?

I don't know if it's normal but it happened to mine as well. It often happens to my runners, too. I wondered if it was lack of bees early on.

If what you have is a little shrivelled black leaf, dont worry this will soon turn to a bean pod, you can self pollinate with a brush, but I thnk it is more likely to be lack of water.............give them a good drench and am sure you will get some pods soon.
