Allotment neighbour today told me about a type of cauli that he grows, gave me a marvellous example last week, but he forgot the variety, saying it was Swedish or similar name, all the year round not being great he said?

Any ideas > thoughts??

Dear Compo, do you mean he gave you a headed cauli ready for eating, if so theres a variety called Aalsmeer, that sounds a bit Swedish to me. and it's ready for cutting about now.
I still grow all the year round, nice tasting, but not as tight or quite as white.

Aalsmeer sound like the variety, but its dutch . I grow a few of these with patriot f1 .Doing this gives me something after the purple sprouting has gone over.

There is a very reliable overwintering cauliflower called 'Walcheren Winter 3 Armado April' (I am sorry it's such a mouthful but there it is) which is just coming into "flower". They have always been successful for us and one great advantage is that they are never bothered with cabbage white caterpillars. In spite of this, this year will be the first time that I will not be growing them because but they do take up a lot of space (they are rather large plants) and a very long time, almost 12 months, so I am giving them a miss.

I wonder if I could pick your brains about cauliflower. I notice from a previous forum that you grow cauliflower all the year round. I have just picked up some plants from my local garden centre, in a fit of excitement and realise now I know nothing about cauliflower. Could you point me in the direction and advise when they are likely to be ready to eat, whether to plant them out and cover them or keep them in the greenhouse and plant out in Spring. Sorry to be such a cauli novice - any help gratefully received

PS update on my onions - they are strung up and look really marvellous - I am so proud of them.
