I've just read that human hair & pet hair scattered around the base of plants makes a great barrier to deter slugs. I've never heard of this before and wonder whether anybody has tried it and can report success. If it works, I can foresee some regular visits to the barber's shop in our village to collect some of the mountains of hair clippings which accumulate on their floor.
Hello Primrose, I haven't tried it but it sounds tempting. I can imagine it's the fact that as the slugs and snails crawl over the hair, their progress will be impeded by the hairs sticking to the slime. I regularly cut my husband's hair and bushy beard and keep the cuttings for the birds (for nesting material), so I will give it a go against snails and slugs this time.

It's also meant to keep deer at bay as well.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.
