Plum and peach problem?

Can any one help perhaps. Two problems - first connected to my plum tree. Variety is Dittisham Ploughman, planted three years ago in heavy red Devon soil. It fruited lightly last year, but the shoots started to die back from the top during the winter and all the buds went brown. Absolutely no signs of life - dug out and removed yesterday.
Secondly a peach tree - planted in a 24 inch pot 12 months ago. It thrived last summer and looked good. Moved into a polytunnel in January to protect from peach leaf curl, It flowered in February, but the flowers seemed very stunted compared to another peach tree planted permanently in the tunnel. It too is slowly dieing back from the tips and all the new leaves are very stunted. The two trees are about 30m apart. Any help gratefully received.
