How stupid are thrushes!

On a semi-deserted plot opposite mine, a thrush built a nest about one-metre above ground level on a pallet being used to create a sort of hedge to keep out the rabbits. I was dead careful not to disturb the mother who faithfully sat on the eggs and occasionally flew off creating a lot of noise whenever I got too close. However, the site has resident foxes, not to mention rats, and I noticed that all three eggs have now disappeared. They must have been eaten because it was too soon for them to have hatched and the youngsters flown away.
The nest was sited too low to the ground and clearly visible from anything wandering around at ground level. Stupid thrush, I thought. Today, I was clearing part of my old fence line in preparation for the laying down of a rabbit-proof fence. Swipe me, I come across yet another nest sited in a similar location at the same height as the one across the way. Three new eggs inside and with a mother who flew away as soon as she saw me cutting away the surrounding dead foliage. Are thrushes thick, or what?
