Just to remark that today is the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, if you didn't know already. Perhaps the greatest composer ever.I shan't remind you ever again.The 2 most pleasurable activities in my life are music and gardening.

Hello Allan - Mozart's Symphony No. 40 is my favourite piece of music. Love Bach too - the Brandbenburg Concertos (especially #5) and Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. It's not his birthday though!

I have to agree about Mozart's 40th. I remember a version coming out on 45rpm by the Waldo Rios Orchestra or something like that which I bought with my pocket money when I was seven years old. I've heard infinitely better renditions since but none that has made quite such an impression in my life.

Wow, Chantal - I first heard Symphony # 40 on a 45 rpm, when I was about 10 years old! It was on a record covering the story of Mozart and I always remember this piece being described as 'leaves swirling down a stream'. Never forgot it and still find it stirring stuff.

Must admit that I like a bit of classical music myself. Mozart is good and I find him quite relaxing. I also enjoy Baroque and Chamber music. My favourite operas are Carmina Burana and Tosca. I also love Celtic music and stuff that I can use for relaxation exercises. I'm also a rock chic (as you can tell be the avatar). I just love music and listen to loads of things. I like Jools Holland and his Rytham and Blues orchastra. Anything really. If it tickles the fancy then i'll listen to it.

I love Orff's Carmina Burana too! Wasn't it also the theme music for The Omen?

I think it was Chez. Ilove working on my plot with the old ipod going. Like you Lizzie I have very ecclectic tastes with anything from the Artic monkey, through to Kate Rusby, Bach, Sarah Brightman, Mozart and even sampling System of a down.

It really goes from walking on clouds to beating dustbins but it works for this old sausage.

I certainly concur with listening to Sarah Brightman. I have her "Timeless" album which would be my No 1 desert island disc. Having said that, when I'm at the lottie, I never listen to music; I just enjoy the quiet.

I've just seen an advert for the Saturday Telegraph saying you get 2 free Mozart CDs tomorrow with over 2 hours of music. May include the 40th (in G minor if I recall correctly).

I may well buy that for the Cds and use the paper to light fires with. Thanks for the tip Chanters
