Hi to all :D

I am thinking about building an incubator as I wish to try hatching some hens eggs, I do not foresee or hope that I will not encounter any problems in the building of the incubator. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to any books on the subject of Hatching eggs in an incubator. I have 6 Hisex hens but would love to have Marans but as they cost £18 a bird :( it is well out of my price range hence the incubator.
Any help on this I would be extremely grateful :P

Kind Regards

Kevin

Hi Kevin

Katie Thear, Incubation, A Guide to Hatching and Rearing, Broad Leys Publishing, £6.95

http://www.blpbooks.co.uk/

If you think Marans are too expensive, remember to count the cost of building an incubator, and a brooder, heat lamps etc, and of course the cost of fertile eggs (not cheap). Remember too that half will be cockerels.
How many hens do you want? If lots, then it might pay to buy a new incubator. If only a few, is the cost worth it?

Sorry, I've given you more questions than answers. But read up and make your own mind up as to the best way forward.

Hi again

I've just checked up on DIY incubation kits. The electrics for a small home-made incubator will cost at least £45. Something else to bear in mind.
