I planted some early potatoes last week and covered them over with clear polythene. There are no holes in the polythene and I noticed when it rains the water stays on top . Do you advise that i put some holes in it to allow water and air to get throuh to the soil.
Another Question
I have a cold frame made from an opaque material similar to conservetory roofs. the sides are about 15 inches tall. Would you advise that i raise the contents(Veg and bedding plants) higher than the floor to get them nearer to the light to ovoid them getting leggy.

I would have thought you are all right leaving the polythene in place. It will be keeping moisture in the soil. When the potato haulms emerge, make holes in the plastic for them to come through and then you can water through these holes should the ground get dry later in the season.
