I've been scouring my usual nursery websites for a fan-trained peach tree to no avail. Would anyone have any suggestions as to where I could get one - ideally a two or three year old container tree.

You could try F.P.Matthews. They will have fulfilled autumn orders first, but they may have something suitable left. You won't get better quality or service.

I think Chris Bowers do them.

It actually grows quite quickly, if it establishes properly in the first place, and it is reasonably easy to train it as a fan. You could get an ordinary first-year tree (which would establish better, being younger) and train it yourself to the wall? We did this, and it worked very well, with big crops after a couple of years.

I agree they train quickly - I bought a maiden last year and it's already looking pretty fan-like – this one is for someone impatient who would want it to look established. Thanks for the suggestions, really helpful.

Don't forget to keep the rain off in the winter as the effective means of stopping peach leaf curl.

I do, it's so ugly though having a huge plastic sheet outside the back door. Might just spray with Bordeaux this year. Do you think this would work?
