Hi Folks,
I have returned to growing vegetables after an enforced break of 26 years. Jeyes used to recommend the use of their diluted fluid for watering on the soil to assist 'beneficial bacteria' but they no longer suggest its use. Anyone know why?

Hi Atco,
Jeyes Fluid is the same formula as it always has been but the licence expired and the manufacturers decided not to re-apply for renewal.
The costs of renewing are colossal and I feel that they decided that as the trend today is to not sterilize soil the sales would not warrant the outlay.
Therefore sadly without a licence it is illegal to use it as a sterilant.
But do remember the formula has not changed!!!

Thank for that Johnboy, I wish I could remember what the dilution was.... but then it matters not if it is now illegal to use it in this manner!
Take care,
Atco

I think you might be missing JB's point. I'm sure he'll tell you the dilution ratio if you PM him......

I believe the formula has changed because of EU regulations, where as before it was very black and tarry,it is now a filthy brown and watery.
Its not the same anymore, I have been using it for many years and there has been a significant change in its formular.

Hi Vron,
I agree that the original formula has changed but it has not changed since it is no longer licenced for horticultural purposes as a soil sterilant. Having said that I have not bought any for some time as I am wading through a 5 gallon drum of it and my use now is very minimal since I retired.
