Have bought a new tool from local car boot sale. I only bought it because I saw John Travolta using one in the film 'Phenomenon' It's a bit like a bent over hand fork but on a long handle. Any ideas as to what it could be and how to use it as I think our Johnny was a bit frantic on the film.

I have right-angled fork from http://www.get-digging.co.uk which sounds similar.

It sounds like either a mattock type fork for breaking rough ground, as Sanman has suggested, or a manure fork or drag for pulling manure or stirring up straw bedding.
