Forum,
I grew some really nice cucumbers last year - F1's. Alas I lost my record sheet with the variety. Any ideas from this description.
8-12 inches long, 1.5 inches thick. A bit prickly with quite a tough skin (compared to the watery supermarket pap). Skin darkish with very little variation.
I found one when I cleared the greenhouse out but it wasn't in any condiction to post a photo!
I'm sure I'll remember it if someone gets it.
Here's hoping.

Hi
I never knew Yorkshire folk were such optimists
I don't know how many varieties of F1 cucumber there are, but I reckon if every member of the forum replied they could all give you a different answer.
Here are my humble suggestions (silliest first):
1 Have yourself hypnotised to make you remember where you put that b*** record sheet
2 Try to remember where you bought the seeds - that should cut down the choices considerably
3 Find a good open-pollinated cucumber (much cheaper seed) and if you like it keep the seed for next year. I do this and save a fortune and eat good cucumbers.
Best of luck

Dear Loznkate, here are a few.
El Toro
Femspot
Zara
Pyralis
Kalimero
Pepinex
But i'm wondering if it's Natsuhikari, of course it could be another one all together.

F1 cucumber come and go. I had 8 different sorts last year. Birgit, suprami, galileo, passandra(mini),pepinex, etc. but the one that I have chosen above all others for this year is Diana (King's) and that for me is 16 seeds which shows the extent of my commitment. I don't see much difference between the F1s on the culinary side, it's rather the ability to keep going throughout the season with decent straightish fruits that matters.
If it's personal choice on flavour, I would rather have an outdoor one any day but you don't get the continuity or cosmetic perfection

I grow the Mini cucumbers and wonder if anybody can tell me why sometimes, from the same seed packet I get some cucumbers with smooth skins and some with prickly skins. It's a complete mystery to me and last summer I had a few cucumbers whose skins resembled cactus plants !
