I'm about to order seeds and don't know which brussels sprouts to try. I haven't had a lot of success in the past - they've either blown quickly or just produced tiny ones which though delicious, are tedious to prepare. Any suggestions please?

Dear Granny,
If you could obtain King's Seed Catalogue they have a very good selection of Brussels which will take you through the season from a September crop to those that do not crop until February and generally finish around April. Of course I do not know how much ground you can lay aside for them or how many mouths you have to feed.
At present I am finishing off Bedford Darkmar 21 and am starting to pick Rubine (a red variety) and very nice they are too.

I have grown ICARUS for the last two years and cannot fault them.

We grew Breeze from Marshalls this last year and are still enjoying a good crop of tight sprouts, having started picking about end of November (don't like the early sprouts when there are still lots of other seasonal veggies about!). For this year I picked Topline from D T Brown which sounded good. Has anybody grown these before?

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Next door neighbour called in yesterday with a Kings catalogue which was useful. I'll be asking for more advice on growing them later in the year.

On recommendation I tried Icarus last year and had a wonderful crop of brussels

Sadly they are apparently no longer going to be available but I do understand that there are some still at;-

Thanks for that WEED its annoying when good seed disappears from general availability had the same problem with a cauli called penduick fantastic winter cauli my best one was three and a half pounds trimmed up but I managed to get three packets from Tuckers last year so alright for a bit longer.

There's an offer on a 'red' sprout (Brussels Sprout ‘Falstaff’) in this months KG - and you can order online...
