Can you make a reasonable cider from shop bought apple juice as unfortunately I cannot get enough apples cheap enough to do it the traditional way?

Hi Piglet, you will be pleased to know the answer is yes! Just google "turbo cider" you will find the recipe there, it looks very easy. Good luck

A lot of the modern commercial cider is also made from imported apple juice and naturally you can make an alcoholic appleade from it. However to make proper cyder you do need traditional cyder apples with an assortment of bitter sharps and bitter sweets to blend a good tasting drink.

We do make a single apple cyder from the Morgan Sweet apple which matures quickly and can be ready by Christmas. You can also make a very sharp cyder from the Bramley and mix it with fizzy lemonade to sweeten it for drinking unless you require it to clear any drains!

After fermentation it is of paramount importance to prevent the air from getting to the cyder, unless you require a cyder vinegar.

When making the traditional drink you do not add any yeast and only rely on naturally occurring yeasts, but if using bought juices you will need to introduce an appropriate yeast.

It’s an easy drink to make, most require at least 6 months to mature, best of luck.
