Automatic Watering and Soil Moisture Sensor

Hi Everyone,
I am looking at ways to automate my watering using a Gardena T1030 card timer and possibly the soil moisture sensor that is available. I wondered whether anyone has experience of this set up or has developed their own. I chose the T1030 as it will work from a water butt at low pressure whereas most of the timers require mains pressure water. Any thoughts?
