I have just come in from working in my garden to find Rocky and Selsey (cockerel & hen to the uninitiated) sitting in front of the fire listening to Andrea Bocelli.

There's something not quite right here...

They moved on to Katherine Jenkins, Sarah Brightman and Vittorio Grigolo before heading off to the chicken shed. Clearly cultured birds.

I still get a lump in my throat every time I see Rocky; I'm so proud of him.

You are SO lucky having these creatures. I really envy you. Wonder what they'd make of "Carnival of the Animals" ?

They do seem to prefer classical to rock or pop etc. When I put Genesis on they both leg it out of the door; the same goes for Marillion, Robbie Williams, Savage Garden etc. Andrea Bocelli et al and they come rushing in. They're quite fond of watching the TV too. I'll never forget coming in on a rainy day to find Tim, Rosie (cat)and Rocky all watching reruns of George & Mildred on Paramount Comedy. I wish I'd taken a photo.

I cant believe how big Rocky has grown. I must come round and see him and do my "aunty Rachel" bit.
If they can work the cd player then its only a matter of time before you can get them doing the cooking etc Probably best not to get them to fry eggs though - bit close to home.....

dh saw the pics n said 'are they in the house?' he looked bemused when i told him they were indeedy and listening to music!

Now if you could get them to make tea, then they'd be really useful animals. I've been trying to convice our cats to do that for years with no success. Though they will turn on the telly from time to time. Maybe that's why I had a baby.

In my experience, it takes years to get children to make tea. You might be better off with a teasmaid.

My cat regularly used to phone the emergency services (we had a big touch-dial phone with a hands-free option). They only came out the once though...

Oh, look at Rocky. The last time his Auny Lizzie saw him he was all battered and bruised and missing feathers.

My animals like classical music too, especially Suki (porky cat)She enjoys Madam Butterfly.

I would if I could easily pick him up Lizzie When you last saw him he was small enough to fit into the palm of my hand and cuddles were a very easy thing. He's far too grown up and dignified to do cuddles now and I can only easily nab him when he's dopey in the night time.

My mother (cheerful soul) pointed out that he was a suitable size for Christmas Dinner now and I'd better keep an eye on him in case someone tried to steal him

Chantal, your mother is being very literal about the thread title I think.

My mother would no more eat one of my chickens than one of my cats, but she is what you might call a "practical" person. As subtle as a scud missile on occasions, but practical.
