Hi Richard

Suggest you try 'Stationary Engine' Magazine there must be a link to someone from that site, they are published by Kelsey Publishing I know they have a site. Or try the 'Kent and sussex weald stationary engine group' they have a site with links to officers someone must have the info.
All i know is that you dribble a small amount of engine oil into the primer cap on the head, and wind like the clappers.!!

hi hortiman thanks for the reply thats about what the previous owner said, i was wondering what the engine oil in the primer actually did ,it wont start from cold without it, this one has a string wound round a pulley on the end of the crank to pull rather than a handle to wind. but its good to get confirmation that engine oil is the correct thing to put in the primer , thanks

Hi Richard

I think the engine oil only takes up combustion space which increases the compression ratio to aid starting, It means a heftier yank is needed on the starting rope!!

try lister-petter instead of just petter you may find this will bring some results as lister took over petters
