I've been given some pods from a black bamboo and was wondering when and how to plant the seeds. Is it worth planting some now and growing on the windowsill?
Any advice much appreciated.

Dear Diane, if you have got quite a few seeds you have nothing to loose, i think i would also be tempted to sow some in pots and put them outside somewhere sheltered like a cold frame, but somewhere so they will get frozen in the winter, some seeds need his to help them germinate.
And also sow some in the spring as normal.
I've never tried growing bamboo from seed before but i would treat the sowing in pots as for any other seed.

Hi Diane,
Bamboo are of the grass family and feel that they should germinate quite easily. Having said that I was a professional propagator for over 30 years and Bamboo is one of the things I have never grown and truth to tell have never even seen a Bamboo seed.
I am not a great lover of Bamboo generally but I do like Black Bamboo and have several on the plot.
They propagate from root cuttings quite easily.
I will be most interested to hear how you get on so please remeber to let us know how you fare.
