Anyone tried Condy'sCrystals??

Have just come across this hint for keeping tomatoes grub free and wonder if anyone on the forum has tried it? I am going to get some toay.

Condy's Crystals:
A few crystals dropped into watering can until water is coloured pink.
Water on weekly.
Apparently Condy's Crystals is an anti-mitricide and fungicide.

I have to admit never heard of Condy's Crystals before but went on Google to find out some information and yes I have used it before, We know it as Permanganate of Potash.

One would normally use Potassium Permanganate for clearing and sterilising smelly,stale water or medical use as an alternative to Hydrogen Peroxide or Iodine.

Reading further, apparently it is used for a number of garden problems. Club root in tomatoes as well as soil borne diseases and is a powerful anti-fungicide that is harmless to humans to handle.
Black spot and powdery mildew as well.
I purchased a little bottle from the chemist yesterday. Though I know now that I could have bought it at the nursery.

The bad news that I have just come across is that it does kill worms - in the immediate area where it is applied. Although the effect goes away quickly, I don't like to think I am killing worms.

Perhaps using for the reason I had intended - tomato grub - and applying it just over the fruit, not enough will soak into the soil to do much damage to the worms.
