I had thought we were going to be blight free this year, given the hot conditions during most of the summer. However, NW Kent really got it in the neck during September, when several blocks of rain caused massive outbreaks of blight. The previous year, blight conditions had appeared throughout the summer, but not in great concentrations. The result was that most things eventually sucumbed to blight, with the exception of my Sarpo blight resistant potatoes. This year was different, however. The blocks of bad weather we experienced during September did actually kill off the Sarpo haulm, which did nevertheless stand much longer than that of other potatoes. My observation, therefore, is that the Sarpo stable of spuds is has strong blight resistance, but is not 100% resistant.
