Hi peeps,

as its nearly "Good Food Show" time again I am going to buy myself an early Christmas present in the form of a decent food processor. At present I manage with a Moulinex Masterchef which is ok for basic chopping and blending etc but is very limiting.

Can anybody reccomend a food processor that is good and reliable and comes in around the £350 mark?

For years, i've been using my mums Kenwood Chef. It's 25 years old and still going strong. It has all the attachments you want, including sausage maker, mincer etc.

They're retailing now at about £250-£300 mark. These are the Rolls Royce of processors. You can't go wrong as they're reliable, never break down (well, once in 25 years isn't bad) and they do exactly what it says on the tin!!!!!

Hi Piglet. We've got the biggest of the Magimix range, which is good but can't stand up to brioche dough or anything else of that density. We've also got the industrial size Kenwood and his lordship has recently bought a commercial mixer (brand new) from a company in Essex (via E-Bay) which was £250. We haven't got it yet, but the write ups look favourable.

At the Good Food Show in the summer, I finally got a Vita Mix which Lyndon has been lusting after for the last 20 years. I think it was about £370 which is a good deal cheaper than importing it from the USA. They were there for the first time and they are booked to reappear at the Novemeber show. It looks old fashioned but it's a superb machine. Take a look at their demo - it really is as good as they say.

It won't replace your food processor, cos it doesn't grate/slice.

If you like - I'll lend you ours for a week. PM me and I'll bring it over to you.

I do have an ordinary food processor but for my last birthday I asked for - and got! - one of those twirly electric whisks that they use on Ready Steady Cook. I asked for the expensive one, £90, as it seemed silly to pay £60 for the smaller engine and then find it wasn't up to it and after all it was one of the special birthdays..... I know it seems an awful lot for a blade on a stick, but I LOVE it! It is utterly tops for soup, and you just whizz it in the saucepan and no mucky cleaning as you have to with the food processor. I have made a lot more soup since I got it! And soup is such a lovely way to use all sorts of veg. I expect it would do sauces too, but I haven't tried that yet with it.
