Blue barrels

Every allotment site I have been to has a massive collection of (usually) blue barrels. Has anybody any idea of where these can be sourced from? What sort of company uses them? Are they usually freely available?
Also, I want to put a tap into the bottom side of the barrel. I can easily buy these from the likes of B&Q/Homebase, but how exactly do you cut such a smooth hole that will enable a snug connection when you put the tap/washer in?

Fruit juice importers I belive are the commonest source.

Chap on our site worked for an ink company and he got them from that, needed a bit of a clean though and the tops had two threaded pipes sticking out, so had to be cut off.

Just drill a hole and then use a file or coarse sandpaper to smooth it off, it WILL have a curve though and that is what rubber washers or silicone sealant are for.
