This is the second time i am posting this question but i have more info the chilli i am looking for is known as Kashmiri which seems to have become a generic name but i am sure an original does exist. Anyone know of a seed source or have seeds they would swap with me.

I want to grow them next year to use in South Indian cooking. They impart a very red colour to a dish and are medium heat.

Along with the cayennes i normally grow next year i am also planning to grow:

Pimiento L Pepper (to make spanish paprika)
Romanian Hot Antohi Chile Pepper
Golden Greek Pepperoncini Pepper (to pickle)
Ciligia Piccante (for use fresh-Italian round mild chilli)
Lemon Drop (under gardianship for kokopelli)

According to the Chileman www.thechileman.org the facts are thus

"Originally a variety grown in Kashmir India, it is now a generic term for any medium long dried red chile. 'Deghi Mirch' is also a mild flavored red chili powder used extensively in Indian Cusine for its colouring properties.. It is more sweet than hot. 'Guajillo' is an appropriate substitute."

but no mention of where to buy them. The word seems to be that it's very similar to paprika.

I read the chileman explanation a while back and the word originally - not that i am being purist - is what led me on my quest to find seeds for a true Kashmiri chilli.
I posted a similar request on the chillis galore forum with no results as yet.
I will try to find some 'Guajillo' if i haven't found kashmiri's by sowing time.

They might not be suitable (or viable) but I have a container of dried Kashmiri chillis at home. Would you like some seeds from them? If so send me a PM.

Another useful chilli site is
http://www.g6csy.net/chile. It lists Kashmiri, but I still don't know where you'll find seed.

This may seem stupidly obvious, but do remember that dried chillies bought for culinary purposes contain quite useable seed. I guess Chipotles won't be viable anymore, but I have been growing "Facing Heaven" from chillies bought from the Cool Chile company for several years.

Dear Cevenol, There is a chilli seed listed as Kashmir on "www.seeds-by-size.co.uk". Could this be the one you are looking for?

I think that is the way to go but in France i haven't been able to track down anywhere that sells Indian chillis.

Will be making a trip to london soon so hope to find some down brick lane.

I was just hoping seeds were out there for a true Kashmiri chilli.
