as far as I know they are hardy and don't need any protection

Piglet grows them on his allotment in the ground.

Hi Seedling !
My Blueberry plant died in it's first winter, but I'm more than sure it was my fault (!) I had it in a tub of John Innes Ericaceous compost, and I reckon I didn't include enough grit or drainage crocks.
If I understand it correctly, they like plenty of rainwater in their growing and fruiting season, but good drainage overall.
I've got two in pots now that cropped well this year, and I'm going to leave them outside in their smallish pots and then re-pot them into bigger ones in the spring.
Good luck with yours....

I have five now

. (And a sulky cranberry.)They're completely hardy. I ignore them over the winter but they do have crocks in the bottom of their pots.

I think it's the soil content that's the big issue - rather than the location. Maybe you should contact the Dorset Company for some advice?

The only thing that will kill Blueberries over winter is if the pot gets saturated and suffers from a prolonged spell of freezing. Most of the bushes over here are northern high bush and are very hardy. My forest is planted directly into the ground into ericaceous compost in clay soil and thrive with no molly coddling.
The Bushes need a period of cold to fruit well so dont put it in the greenhouse.
