Not veg but....

I've had flowering spikes on my lupins all through the summer and they're still flowering. What's even more gratifying is that they were sown from seed 2 years ago, so they only cost me the price of a packet of seed. We have cut off the seeded spikes all the way through the summer. I've had second flushes from early perennials, but never a continuous flowering like this.

That's really lovely...

Jane,
The Lupins, or any other flowers in the herbaceous border will always respond to regular 'deadheading'. The more 'spent flower blooms' you remove, the better your flowers will perform over their given flowering period.
Because if you don't remove them, they begin to set seed, which reduces flower production.
I bet they were a real picture....
