Does anyone know where I can get apple root stock, perhaps malling, which I can use for grafting?

Hi Mags,
Not an easy thing to get hold of. I live quite close to a very large fruit tree producer and they will not part with any. This nursery produce their own rootstocks and I was advised to check my existing Apple Trees if they were young and see if there are any suckers. There were not but the following year one of them got canker and I decided to cut it down.
I duly did this and left the stump which promptly threw out a load of suckers. Oh lucky me and I have
9 trees to prove this. I kept the MM 106 rootstock going for years but gave up producing trees about 10 years ago and cleared them all out.
Being in France I know nothing of their rootstock but suggest that the Malling and Merton/Malling rootstock are pretty widely used. They are used by the Dutch so you may be lucky in France.
I can research some French fruit producers if you would like. PM me if the answer is yes.
JB.

Hello,

In UK Blackmoor Nursery lists rootsocks.

http://www.blackmoor.co.uk/advanced_sea ... &x=10&y=12

They show as being in stock next January.

I have not purchased Apple rootstocks from them but did have some of their Gooseberies last year which were of good quality and well packaged.
I have no knowledge if there would be any problem in despatch to France...but I do know that Blackmoor usually respond very quickly to e-mail enquiries.

All the best,
Clive.

Many thanks for your help, mags.
