I ordered sweet potato 'slips' this year, but for various reasons, they didn't get planted out. If I can keep the plants alive over the winter, will they be viable for planting out next year, does anyone know???

My family have often asked if we can grow Sweet Potatoes.

hi there garlic guy! I ordered them from Thompson+Morgan (quite expensive!) they delivered them late, so that contributed to them not being planted out. they currently reside in small pots, and having survived a serious caterpillar attack, are now starting to recover, hence me wanting to keep them going until the spring!

Cannot buy sweet potato plants here for love or money.
I managed to sprout one last summer and it grew some leaves, but disappeared completely during winter.
Just noticed yesterday, that it is appearing again and has leaves .
At the moment I have another sweet potato sitting in a glass of water with some rooting solution. I was told by a vegetable nurseryman that this was the best way to sprout them. Half in and half out of the water till it starts shooting, then slice into sections where shoots are, put back into half in and half out of water with rooting solution and wait till roots show.
