Whoopee!!! Alan T and James Martin are filming a programme about 'the world of the village show', the final of which will be recorded at Highgrove in October. It's about people who grow veg, make cakes, make handicrafts. Ok - so it sounds a bit naf, but who cares? I don't know when it will be scheduled, but I assume it's going to be this autumn.

AND - JM's other new show (about his garden) starts in November.

Then - just to send me into orbit, Robbie Coltrane is back this autumn in a new series of Cracker.

There's not going to be much gardening done here.

Hey EF, what kind of handicrafts do you do? I sew and can do other bits but I'm interested to know what other people get up to.

i love painting and drawing too
dont get me started on the amount of piccys i take!

I can sew clothes etc, I can knit, I love cooking, and eating!!!!

I'd like to get into making either jewellry and possibly, childrens historical dressing up costumes to sell at fairs, events etc. I'm still thinking about the jewllry bit cos never done it before. Maybe I should see if there's a class or something in my area.

I saw some hand made jewllry over the weekend and it was crap, to be honest. I thought I could make better myself.

well theres a silver making class near me that a friend went to last term
im thinking i might go in september
she made some lovely stuff
its a lost art sewing-getting decent dress fabric is really hard down here

I do lots of crafts, sew, knit, cook, etc. I only used the word 'naf' because I can't quite imagine how they're going to make it into a gripping programme. I think it might be like "Big Dig meets Antiques Roadshow". I don't really mind what it's like as lomg as the presenters are on the screen!

Hiya! I`m into all kinds of textile crafts, I`m making a patchwork quilt at the moment - by hand so it won`t be on the bed this winter! I`ve also started an applique picture for my daughter`s Christmas prezzie. I love making felt - made some wild and eccentric berets! and all kinds of stitching. I admire anybody who knits! I spent a year making my significant other a lovely warm waistcoat. When he tried on the finished garment he said, "Hmmm - thanks --- I`ll wear it at the allotment --" Must admit it was a bit enveloping! Warm though!

Hi Elderflower

My mum makes patchwork bed quilts too. All hand sewen and they are gorgeous. She makes them for birthdays, weddings, christenings so that they can be passed on through the children.

I would maybe start to knit again. It would be good for my arthritic fingers. It's whether I have the patience left or not.

I think i'll go the library tomorrow and have a look at the courses available. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
