My autumn bliss raspberries have brown blotches on the leaves, looks like potato blight, but it not that. It started in the hot weather we had. No rain for 5 weeks, hardly any fruit appearing. Last year had a good crop. Can anyone help me,I can't find any thing in the books about the problem.

Hello my old Cockneycarrot, it sounds to me as if your raspberries have just got stresed with the heat and lack of rain.
If you give them a good soaking and a liquid feed this might help, but i don't think you will get a very big crop this year.
It would help to give them a good mulch with compost next year.
Kind regards Old Herbaceous.
Theres no fool like an old fool.
P.S I will be in Norfolk saturday, i will keep my eyes open for some poor looking Autunm Bliss.

Thanks for your help, I think you're right about lack of water, I will put on more compost. Did you find my allotment when you were here at the week end, hope you missed the rain. My allotment was the one with no carrots (failure), runner beans (failure), onions half size, potatoes small, weeds large. I make tea every day for 8 others, spend too much time talking trying to convince the Norfolk folk that us Londoners aren't all Spivs!

Hi Cockney -
I can't advise on the raaspberries, but I can commiserate - something horrible happened to mine too - just weeks after we planted them . never did discover what it was...
I'm in Norfolk for the day tomorrow - I'll pay attention to any allotments I pass - it sounds remarkably like my garden!

My old Cockneycarrot, sounds as if i should have called in for a brew.
I was staying at Bacton near to Cromer, i don;t know if your allotment is near there

I did check out the allotments at Bacton, but there was no tea makers there.
Pretty lucky with the weather, it seemed to be raining all round, but not to much where i was.
Spent all monday in hiding, just incase Zena was lurking in the bushes.
I must say i do find the Norfolk folk rather charming, and make one feel most welcome.
I'm sure they don't think all Londoner's are Spivs.
Kind regards Old Herbaceous.

You were safe Old H, I didn't make it as far as the coast. And there was LOTS of rain where I was.
I'd still like to know what happened to the raspberries......I cut them right back and don't know whether to wait and see if they grow back, or dig them up and start again?

Dear Zena, when did you plant your raspberries, and did you keep them well watered, and when did you cut them back.
Sorry about the rain you had in Norfolk.
Kind regards Old Herbaceous.
