Ugly caterpillars on caulis

Our organically grown cauliflowers have been invaded by some large beigey-brown fat caterpillars which leave large yellow droppings. They are neither large nor small cabbage white caterpillars, so what could they be? Are they from moths? If so, which moths? And how could we avoid them in future?
Your help would be much appreciated!
Does it look like this?

If so, possibly Cabbage Moth. Presumably netting or mesh to keep the adults from laying eggs would be the way to go.

Thanks, Belinda, that could be it. The next one I find, I will bring home and compare with the picture. In many years' of brassica growing, I have never seen any of these before!

I decided after hundreds of caterpillars descended last year not to do cauli this year and ive not seen any!
