Anthony. I always put the windfalls in my compost heap. I do, however cut them in half. The bigger windfall apples make good wine!

I always use windfalls for cooking with (regardless of variety). Skins and cores are then boiled in enough water to cover them for about one hour, then strained. The pulp can be thrown on the compost heap and the juice drank or used to make jams and jellies by adding it to fruit (instead of water) and herbs eg mint and rosemary jellies are gorgeous spread on lamb.

I suppose what you do depends one how many apples you get that are not windfalls.

Hi Anthony,
I am certainly no expert but I did read somewhere that any windfalls that are diseaseed (e.g. brown rot) shouldn't go in compost. I'm sure your's are not like that :)
