Myself and FranksDad are now the proud owners of our very own garden. It's in a bit of a mess at the moment, lots of weeds & shrubs to pull out & some huge conifers to get rid of.

Here's to many years of happy gardening ahead!!!!

Hello Franksmum, i was just wondering how us gardeners always seem to take on the weediest gardens or allotments.
We must really be gluttons for punishment
Best of luck with your conifers.

Kind regards Old Herbaceous.

This sun makes my hair rustle like pea straw.

Thanks OH I think in our case it's because we purposely didn't want a garden that had been 'done'. We've always wanted to grow veg and have a couple of chickens maybe and when looking at houses we rejected quite a lot because the gardens been 'Ground Forced' - too much gravel and decking.
I think the conifers will need a tree surgeon (I don't know anyone with a chainsaw)

Weeding & de-shrubbing is good for you anyway!!!! :D

Not when it's 33 degrees centigrade though Franksmum!

I'd like to echo Carole's post in a more serious tone. You'll find it much easier to sort out in the autumn/winter when everything's died down and the ground's a lot softer. I'd hate you to get disillusioned by trying to do it all in the next couple of months.
Waiting a little while will give you a chance to get to know what's in the garden, what grows well where and what the patterns of shade are during the day.
Best of luck!

Thanks Carole and Jenny & I totally agree with you all - Franksdad however is full of enthusiasm.....

I think it's far better to leave jobs like this until late autumn/winter. Also we noticed last night we have a lot of birds living in those nasty trees and don't want to make them homeless just yet. It's going to be a big enough shock when the cats are released out there!!!

Aw thanks Jopsy that's very sweet of you!
Would he mind the long drive up the M5??

We found out last night that we have a neighbour that will do most anything garden wise for a quart of dodgy scrumpy..... :D

Hi Franksmum,
Take my advice and give him a gallon!! Not all at once though otherwise you don't get the job done!!

Tee hee Johnboy!! That'll keep him quiet for oooh at least a week. I'll get another gallon for Franksdad and then I can get some work done

Great news on the garden. Whereabouts are you in the West Mids?

We're in Blackheath - between Birmingham and Dudley.

Not far away then. We ought to arrange a Midlands' Members get together at sometime. Maybe in the spring and do a seed/plant swop?
