Big Andrew completed a triathalon in 35 mins. It consisted of 50 meter swim, 6km bike ride and 5k run. He did pick up a rather unfortunate injury in a place that's not easy to put a plaster but he'll live!!!
Best of all, Little Andrew did the kids triathalon which consisted of a 25 meter swim, 2.5km bike ride and 3k run in 25 minutes with no injuries.
I'm a very proud mum and partner today cos my boys did good

Hi Zena,
I read the newspapers with great sadness that some schools have decided to get rid of "Sports Days" as they feel sorry for the losers!!
So you son came last but at least he took part and for that alone you should be proud because it is the taking part that children love. I sometimes despair at Educationalists as they do get some wacky ideas.
At any rate give him a big hug from me for taking part.

The world is obsessed with this idea of striving to be winners and praising them, ignoring that it's the multitude of losers that make it possible to have winners at all. I was always a loser in sport so I ignore it all and get on with my own life which is what really matters. Even in vegetables it's the yield and quality that matter to me, not the cups and prizes.Does it really matter who wins the World Cup (something to do with kicking a ball I think) when the differences between the teams was so small that they said most games were resolved by penalties, whatever they are. I will strive for my own Everests.

Surely the essence is not just winning, losing or even taking part, its having fun.
In so many instances I have seen over the years the win at all costs syndrome take away the fun element of healthy competition
In a sport I participated some years ago at each event there was the "most sporting team" prize... this was coveted almost as much as the winning prize

I quite agree. There's nothing wrong in a child wanting to do their best, it's good character building for them. My son was talking to another boy whilst waiting to start the swim, and his parents had said that if he comes in the top 10 he'll get £100, less money as he goes down the results list.
I think this is terrible. I'm all for encouraging the kids but they have to learn there isn't always a monetary gain to be had.
My son got a "well done son, I'm really proud of you today, you did really well" and a trifle for his pudding.
His school sports day was cancelled cos "the world cup was on and England were playing that day". It wasn't the school, it was an outside provider. I still can't track the bugger down. All the kids were really disappointed. They'd all worked hard to get picked for the teams and then were let down cos someone couldn't be arsed tearing themselves away from the tv.
The teacher was gunning for them. He was well gutted.
And, as for the do-gooders not wanting the little darlings upset cos the "lose" they want shooting. It's a competative world out there, and the sooner the kids learn it the better for them. These are the same kids who never achieve anything cos they don't know how to compete. Zenas son may have come in last, but so what. He took part and knows how to compete. He's a real winner
Sorry, ranted on a bit. Finished now.

Please congratulate BOTH your boys for me Lizzie, the boys' done good.
And as for YOUR little boy Zena, I'm with HIM ! What a fab kiddy to be ABLE to take it on the chin in such a prissy/woossy world where it's almost illegal to play conkers anymore... I mean, I ASK you !!!
I wholeheartedly agree with you Allan...
And hearing the World Cup Commentary going on in my right ear right now, I'm going to retire to my little KG Haven outside the door here, with my gardening cat, and do a bit of weeding.
