I've had some brown patches on the ends of my broad beans - the actual beans. Does anyone know what it is?

Hello Jane

If the leaves have brown spots and the stems have dark streaks along them it is probably Chocolate Spot.

If the pods are also affected then in time the beans can be discoloured. Best to pick them early before the bean seeds become discoloured.

we occasionally get light brown patches on individual beans, never enough to worry about , the affected beans just get slung in the compost with the pods. it does seem to arise as the beans get more mature,ie its never on small green pea sized beans .

Not chocolate spot - no sign other than when I peel them open they have brown patches at top and bottom. Not too many affected now.

just a thought, brown patches in other fruit and veg can be a sign of a particular sugar being present
