Hi all

I've got a tayberry plant currently in the greenhouse which I need to transfer outside.

When's the best time to do it? It has 2 large leaders coming off the bush and loads of healthy growth. There's only a few fruits on the bush as it's only a young'un.

I was going to plant it at the side of the greenhouse and train it along on wire. Do I need to prune the new growth down to a few buds or leave it?

Lizzie, you don't say, but I assume it is planted in the soil, not a pot.
If so leave until dormant, or you are in for a lot of watering!

Thanks for advice, will leave it for a while. It's taken over one part of the greenhouse but it seems happy where it is for now

bear in mind its like a blackberry in so far as the new canes this year will fruit next year and those which have fruited this year will die so should be cut out to ground level over winter. ours is planted along the south facing garage wall so it gets the runoff from the gutterless roof. its fruiting well at the moment

Hi Lizzie,
If it was mine I would take it outside and place it where you intend to eventually plant it NOW.
I do not think it needed to be in the greenhouse in the first place as they are exceedingly hardy.
I would not cut anything as what Richard so rightly says is that next years crop comes from this years growth. Plant out in the dormant period.

It was put in the greenhouse cos when I received it the soil was really heavy and wet and I thought it might die if I planted it out then. Just didn't get round to planting the thing sooner!!!

I'm sure I missed a super party. Gutted I couldn't go but had prior arrangements.
