I have a dozen plants on Plot 2 that I have been bringing on so the nursery see how it goes on heavy soil.

Not really wishing to dampen your enthusiasm, but what's the difference between that and Doris?

Hmmmm, I can see a similarity but then again there are lots of Dinathus out there.

But Doris has cut petals:

And the centre of the flower is more red than pink.

But then to be honest I just think Dad has done a great job, Whetmans are a very well respected dianthus nursery and they think it has potential.

And come the end of the day Mum has a flower named after her.....

Dad was not looking for a commercial success, it was simply spotted when one of the nursery men at Whetmans came to look at his garden.

Funny enough the result of that first visit may proove more interesting due to a deutzia Dad has been working on but that is a few years down the line just yet. This one probably has a link to Veitches, a 1850's Exeter nursery.

But I agree, to get something outstanding it has to stand out!
