Mulching strawberries with pine needles – good or bad?

Hi everyone, I’m growing strawberries in a small kitchen garden and I can easily get pine needles nearby. Has anyone tried using pine needles as mulch for strawberries, and did it affect soil acidity, pests, or yield compared to straw or compost?
