Never saved seeds before so thought I would give it a go last year by saving couple jars of broadbeans.

Sowed 30 fortnight ago and they have all come up, usually get dud ones in the past.

Sowed others that were older and from different suppliers without same result.

I've saved them for a few years now and have also found they germinate far better. Somebody used to post on here that commercial peas and beans were over dried and should be allowed to absorb some moisture from the atmosphere before sowing.

Always saved my own. Runner / broad bean. Never picked the bean from one plant. Worked on the theory these beans are at their best so were always left.

The fact that all your broad beans have sprouted is a testament to the quality and care you've taken in storing them. It's interesting to see the contrast with older seeds from different suppliers. This just goes to show that sometimes, the freshest seeds, ones you've harvested and saved yourself, can often be the most reliable.
